What is Millennial Pink?
When the Color Marketing Group named Millennial Pink the color of the year in 2016, no one predicted that the grapefruit x apricot hue would take the world by storm and remain one of the most popular colors in design for years to follow. What gives this hue such staying power? The color is both trendy and nostalgic, offering a cheeky, unsaturated nod to the once popular, more obtrusive bubble-gum pink. Reminiscent of Pantone’s 2016 pick of Rose Quartz, Millennial Pink is often described as gentle and sincere, and it can evoke feelings of calmness and positivity.
Many claim the color first gained attention when it was featured as one of the primary exterior colors of the hotel in Wes Anderson’s 2014 film The Grand Budapest Hotel, while others argue that the color was established long before, as a staple color in the acclaimed art of Andy Warhol. Regardless of how the color made its debut, it has remained a prominent statement in both fashion and design for several years. Seems that it won’t be going anywhere any time soon.
